During the summer season, Bagnères is a lively spar town, steeped in history, with many good restaurants, bars and shops. In the winter, skiers flock to this popular resort area. There's every type of sporting activity in and around Bagnères too, including horse riding, the thermal baths, canoeing, trout fishing, walking, hiking, tennis, climbing, biking, etc. If you're feeling lucky you could try the casino - a spectacular old building right in the middle of Bagnères.

There are some fantastic walks around Bagnères. Try the hike to Lac Bleu. You drive or ride to Chiroulet - about ten minutes from Villa Tamerza - then hike. Spectacular mountain views. Another good day trip is Gavarnie. The observatory at the top of the Pic du Midi is now open during winter and summer and offers spectacular views for hundreds of miles in all directions. In the observatory itself there are some fascinating exhibits and a wealth of material for astronomy buffs.

Villa Tamerza is only a few kilometres from Spain so another possible trip is Pamplona where they let the bulls loose in the street each year!.

Just fifteen minutes drive from Villa Tamerza is the magnificent town of Lourdes, a world renowned centre for religious tourism. Lourdes is an impressive site with its spectacular churches and rich heritage. Whatever your beliefs you must visit the abbeys, beautiful Baroque altars, grottos and pilgrim routes.

It all happened on 11th Feb 1858, when the Virgin Mary first appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in a cave by the Gave river. Visited by millions of pilgrims from all over the world, Lourdes gets a bit hectic during the Christian religious festivals of Easter and the Nativity.
